Affont 1.2: re-send from Affinity without losing your edits, paste from Affinity, and no more lost work
Re-sending from Affinity keeps your edits
Until now, every Send from the template sent all the letters, and Affont replaced them all: whatever you had touched up in the editor was lost as soon as you sent new letters.
- Letters you haven’t changed in Affinity since the last send now stay exactly as they are in Affont, with their shape and spacing.
- Letters you changed only in Affinity are updated, as before.
- If a letter changed on both sides, Affont asks: Use Affinity’s or Keep Affont’s, with the list of letters. Undo brings them back if you pick the wrong one.
- Reload .af works the same way. Batches without a template still replace the letters you name.
Paste from Affinity
- In Affinity, turn on Settings ▸ General ▸ Copy items as SVG and copy a shape. In Affont’s Glyph editor, ⌘V / Ctrl+V pastes it, like Paste inside. ⌘⇧V / Ctrl+Shift+V (Paste vectors) replaces the letter.
- Only filled shapes are pasted, so expand strokes first (Layer ▸ Expand Stroke).
- SVG files exported from Affinity import properly: before, they could arrive with no shapes at all.
Your latest work stays when you open your project
When Affont opens, it recovers your work even if you didn’t save it. But if you then opened the project file (with a double-click, for example), the saved version, which was older, was loaded without asking. Now Affont tells you when you last saved that file and asks first.
Tip: press ⌘S / Ctrl+S (Save project) whenever you finish working.
Questions that actually show
- The questions before opening another project, starting a new one, creating another style or deactivating the license didn’t show, and the app went ahead as if you had said yes. Now they show, in an Affont dialog.
- On Mac, New style of this family… did nothing. Now it asks for the name.
Batches from Affinity
A letter sent on its own from another Affinity document comes out at the height of the letters of its kind already in your font: a w on its own, like your other lowercase.
No need to import the Affinity scripts again for this version.
Thanks to the designers who reported these this week, and for the copy & paste idea, asked for right here in the community. Keep them coming!
